Top Performers of 2022; West Indies Leading run scorers and wicket-takers in each format of 2022

2022 was not a good year for the West Indies team in all respects. The regional team played 52 international matches this year out of which they won only 15 matches and lost 34 matches.

Here, the Caribbean team, which faced 21 ODI matches, managed to win 04 matches and lost the remaining 17 matches. However, out of 07 matches, Kraigg and the Test team managed to win three, lose two and draw the other two matches.

The two-time World Twenty20 champions crashed out of this year’s Twenty20 World Cup in the preliminary round following heavy defeats to Scotland and Ireland. The former World T20 champions have lost 15 of the 24 T20 matches played this year and won only 08.

Accordingly, West Indies players have not been very successful this year but let’s find out who is the highest scorer and highest wicket-taker in each format this year.

1. One-Day Internationals

Batting ODI: #1 Shai Hope (ICC Ranking 12)

This year was no different and the 29-year-old was once again one of the few stars to shine for West Indies in a difficult year where they won just 5 of the 21 ODIs they played.

Hope did not get off the greatest of starts in 2022 but in typical fashion started to grind out runs in the latter half. He finished the year with 709 runs, which include three hundred and two fifties, at an average of 35.45.

Shai Hope was often the lone warrior for West Indies in ODIs this year and as a result, four of his five fifty-plus scores this year came in losses. The one that didn’t – his 119* off 130 against the Netherlands – fetched him the Player of the Match in the first game of the three-match series in May-June 2022.

Bowling: #1 Akeal Hosein (ICC Ranking 21)

Alzzari Joseph and spinner Akeal Hosein were the only two successful bowlers in the ODI format for the regional team this year.

From that, Hosein managed to take 30 wickets in 20 matches. 04 wickets for 39 runs against Netherlands is his best bowling this year. 30.70 average his 2022 economy 5.15.

The two-time World Twenty20 champions Caribbean did not have a successful year and suffered unexpected defeats. However, this year bowlers like Jason, McCoy and Hosein have been somewhat successful.
