Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper Imran Tahir says the way his batting unit adjusted to conditions was key to their victory against the Barbados Royals on Wednesday night at Providence.
The Amazon Warriors put up 219 for 8 and restricted the Royals to 172 for 9 to win by 47 runs.
Shai Hope (71) and Shimron Hetmyer (57) did the job with the bat for the Warriors, while Gudakesh Motie (3/42), Moeen Ali (2/16) and Tahir (2/22) stifled the Royals with the ball.
“The pitch also offered a bit of spin but the way our batters played. It was nice to see how Hetmyer and Hope played. We know they can take the attack to any bowling attack,” Tahir said.
“We did not adjust as quickly as we could. They came back, had a good plan and the way they delivered was nice to see,” he added.
Tahir was also quick to praise the way his bowlers delivered on the night.
“Moeen (Ali) bowled well, we kept taking wickets. We bowled really well as a bowling group. Proud of the boys. Nice to have these guys in your group,” he said.
Tahir also revealed that pacer Shamar Joseph was not feeling well and did not play as a result.
He said that Joseph was key to his team going forward and they wanted to rest him.
The Amazon Warriors are next in action against the St Lucia Kings at Providence on Saturday.
The Royals play the Trinbago Knight Riders on Friday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
