Leading wicket-takers in the Caribbean Premier League

2013 was the inaugural year of the Caribbean Premier League. The first championship was won by Jamaica Tallawahs. Accordingly, all necessary plans are being made to start CPL tenth edition on August 30, 2022.

World’s highest T20 wicket taker DJ bravo is also the highest wicket taker in this League so far. Accordingly, the top 5 wicket takers in CPL are :

01. Dweyan Bravo (2013 – 2021)

Dweyan Bravo is a fantastic all-rounder who has made a big splash in various T20 leagues around the world. A brilliant cricketer with the bat as well as the ball, Bravo was also an amazing fielder. All this meant that the Caribbean star was one of the most sought-after names in the T20 leagues. He was created for white-ball cricket because of his versatility skills. Bravo bowled as a traditional seam bowler but excelled especially in the slog overs of the innings where he proved his value to his team.

The Caribbean Premier League is another league where his dominance has spread. There he is the player who has taken the Highest wicket taker so far. He has represented various teams in the CPL since the opening season and has played 89 matches there. In the 89 matches he represented, he has taken 114 wickets with an average of 22.11. (BBI 5/23)

The DJ has represented St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Trinabago Knight Riders, Trindad & Tobago Red Steel.

02. Rayad Emrit (2013 – 2020)

A spunky all-rounder, he was selected for the tour of India ahead of the 2007 World Cup after captaining Trinidad and Tobago in the 20/20 tournament in Los Angeles. But he could not succeed with bat and ball in the Indian subcontinent and After many years since then, he was awarded a Twenty20 international debut in 2018.

Emrit is the second highest wicket-taker in the CPL, second only to DJ Bravo. He has played 85 matches for several teams since the inception of CPL. There he has managed to take 96 wickets with an average of 22.75 and the best bowling was 35/4. Rayad emrit has played for Barbados Tridents, Guyana amazon warriors, st kits and nevis patriots.

03. Sunil Narine (2013 – 2021)

Trinidad Sunil Narine is another mystery spinner who has dominated the spin in various leagues around the world. But from time to time various questions arose about his bowling action. Narine was out of international cricket for over a year, but he returned to the West Indies team in November 2015. This time it was the ICC who was on his bowling action and he was subsequently banned from bowling in international cricket. He was ranked as the No. 1 bowler in T20Is when he was selected for the T20 World Cup in 2016, but withdrew from the tournament to focus on his rehabilitation. However, his action was later cleared by the ICC.

However, Sunil Narine is the third highest wicket-taker in the Caribbean Premier League. He has also been representing this league since its inception and he has represented two teams so far namely Guyana amazon warriors, Trinabago Knight Riders. He managed to take 90 wickets in 86 matches with an economy rate of 5.32. The best bowling of the mysterious spinner was 3 wickets for 6 runs.

04. Krishmar Santokie (2013-2019)

Santoki was given his T20I debut on England’s tour of the West Indies in 2011 for two T20Is, although he finished with a respectable figure of 1/17 from his four overs. Unfortunately, he was soon thrown from the team.

However, the inaugural season in the Caribbean Premier League brought him back into the limelight. Impressed by his breakers, cutters and slow yorkers, the IPL’s Mumbai Indians signed him for a seventh season in the T20 league. Santokie was the CPL’s most valuable player, taking 16 wickets in 9 matches at an impressive economy rate of 6.22. Although the selectors recalled him to the T20 set-up, he has not played for the nation since mid-2014.

He has managed to take 85 wickets in 58 matches in CPL and averages 19.90. The best bowling was 04 wickets for 11 runs. He has represented Guyana amazon warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, st kits and nevis patriots, st lucie zouks.

05. Sheldon Cottrell (2013 – 2021)

In the inaugural Caribbean Premier League, Cottrell was among the most promising young talents. His exceptional performances in the CPL earned him a place in the West Indies A squad that toured India in November 2013. He took 2 for 37 on his T20I debut against England in Barbados in March 2014.

Cotterell ranks at number 5 onthis list in CPL. he has taken 80 wickets from 65 matches and Cotterell has been highly successful at the International level too but has been in and out of the T20 side sometimes due to injury and at other times due to his performances. Cottrell has played for Antigua Hawksbill, st kits and nevis patriots teams.

Apart from this, Kesrick Williams,  Andre Russell, Sohil Tanvir,  Ravi Rampaul, and Imran Tahir were respectively in this list.
