Latchmin Sookdeo, a 51-year-old resident of Lima, Region Two received a fully-furnished house on Christmas Day.
The house was handed over by Essequibo Businessman Joe Jagmohan, who is the Managing Director of International Imports and Supplies.
He did so in memory of his mother Chano Jagmohan, who passed away in 2020.
Sookdeo was overjoyed when she received the house.
She is currently unemployed and grapples with filaria and arthritis. Now, Sookdeo will be able to live a more comfortable life with the new house.
Jagmohan, who was Sookdeo’s former employer, also made the commitment to provide $100,000 monthly for the next 12 months to Sookdeo.
He will also construct a shop for her, in hopes of her being able to earn for herself.
“This is what I love doing, giving back, serving my fellow Guyanese, and I am happy to bring joy to all the elders and Sookdeo on Christmas Day” Jagmohan said.
Two more houses will be constructed for two more Essequibians in 2023.
In addition to handing over the fully-furnished house to Sookdeo, 30 persons received grocery hampers while $10,000 cash and a meal were provided to elders from various communities in Region Two.
In 2019, the businessman also constructed and handed over a fully-furnished house to a family at Crabwood Creek, Berbice.
