Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada struck twice in three balls and sparked the collapse after opening batsmen Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul survived the first 10 overs, putting on 21 runs.

Rabada dismissed Brathwaite for the seventh time in successive innings when he trapped the West Indian captain leg before wicket for 18 with a ball which kept low.

Two balls later Raymon Reifer gloved a catch down the leg side to wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen.

Spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj also took two wickets each as the West Indies lost six wickets for 13 runs.

Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee stepped into the breach left by the injured Keshav Maharaj, who led the field for an MRI scan on a suspected Achilles injury, claimed 3/37 in eight overs of high pace.

Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph all played some aggressive strokes after lunch as the last four wickets yielded 72 runs before the match ended soon after the afternoon drinks break.

Simon Harmer (3/45) did the damage in the session before lunch rightfully though completed the proceedings by picking up the last wicket of Alzarri Joseph for 18.

Joseph had delivered some form of entertainment with a couple of sixes in the previous over off Harmer after Kagiso Rabada had dropped him in the deep.

South Africa scored 320 runs in the first innings and the visitors scored 251 runs in reply. The home team were earlier bowled out for 321, with captain Temba Bauma adding just one run to his overnight score of 171, bowled by Holder at deep square leg.

South Africa won easily by 284 runs as South Africa were bowled out for 106 runs in order to score 391 runs for victory. Accordingly, South Africa won the two-match World Test Championship series 2-0.

The series victory is a first for captain Temba Bavuma, who was named Player of the Match for his second innings 172, and coach Shukri Conrad.

Bavuma said at the post-match presentation,

“I think from the time we made the decision about the composition of the team (playing two spinners), we were hoping the conditions would end up playing this way and fortunately we got it right.”

“The guys played their role. Simon, Kesh played really well. I’m very satisfied and glad I was able to contribute.”

Also Brathwaite said,

“The bowlers got 40 wickets in the series and that’s a good accomplishment.”

“Batting wise, we weren’t good enough. We didn’t score enough runs, as simple as that. They (South Africa) are a very good attack. Away from home we haven’t scored enough runs.”
