WI vs IRE 2022 : 2nd One-Day International postponed, tournament is at risk

The second One-Day International scheduled for Sabina Park on Tuesday, January 11 has therefore been postponed due to  further positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the Ireland camp

Cricket West Indies (CWI) and Cricket Ireland (CI) issued a joint statement after two further positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the Ireland camp Following  recent testing, and two players being ruled out due to injury, resulting in Ireland having a severely depleted squad.


West Indies won the Opening ODI match of the three match series on Saturday (08) and were due to face Ireland again on tomorrow (Tuesday 11) and Friday at Sabina Park in Jamaica, and only  T20 International clash scheduled for Sunday. 

However Ireland, who were already without Simi Singh and Ben White for the Saturday match, were hit with more cases plus injuries, which leaves the tourists with ‘a a severely depleted squad’.

“CWI and CI are in discussions to review the match schedule and are working to explore all possibilities for the series to be completed,” read the statement, issued by the CWI Media. “The five members of the Ireland team who have returned positive Covid-19 results remain in isolation under the care and supervision of the medical teams.”
