WBBL Final Match Highlights; All-round Deandra Dottin powers Adelaide Strikers to maiden WBBL title

Better late than never. Cliches were the only pacifying means for Adelaide Strikers till today. However, on Saturday (November 26), Strikers tasted success as they clinched their maiden WBBL title with a hard-fought 10-run win over Sydney Sixers. The Sixers finished with 137 in a chase of 148.

On the big day, runs on the board certainly helped Strikers, who started quickly off the blocks. The opening duo of Laura Wolvaardt and Katie Mack added 51 for the first wicket before two wickets pegged them back.

Dottin entered the stage at 53 for 2 and stitched a stand of 44 with Tahlia McGrath, and remained unbeaten on 52.

Meanwhile, Sophie Ecclestone bowled a tight spell and conceded only 19 runs in her four overs besides chipping in with two wickets. Sixers did concede a few runs at the end as Ashleigh Gardner had an off day.

The target didn’t look like a tall order but Sixers’ batters never got going. The power-packed line up saw early exits of Suzie Bates, Alyssa Healy, Gardner and Erin Burns, with Sixers being reduced to 16 for 4.

Dottin also chipped in with the ball, as she combined with the pace spearhead Darcie Brown to share four wickets. Ellyse Perry and Nicole Bolton took the baton forward in a steady manner but the required rate kept climbing up. Bolton fell to McGrath and Sixers’ chances reduced further as Perry fell a little later.

Maitlan Brown came up with a cameo but was a case of too little and too late. It was another heartbreak for Sixers, who despite being the pace-setters in the league stage, again fell short at the final.

Brief Scores: Adelaide Strikers 147/5 in 20 overs (Deandra Dottin 52*, Sophie Ecclestone 2-19) beat Sydney Sixers 137 in 20 overs (Ellyse Perry 33, Darcie Brown 2-15) by 10 runs
