IPL 2024: Pooran to Russell – How World Cup-bound nine West Indies players fared in Indian Premier League 2024

As many as nine players part of the West Indies T20 World Cup 2024 squad featured in the IPL 2024, and played key roles for their respective teams.

Brandon King, Roston Chase, Johnson Charles, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie and Obed McCoy are the only six players who were not related to any of the ten franchises in the IPL 2024.

The likes of Andre Russell, Rovman Powell, and Nicholas Pooran stayed in India for the IPL 2024 playoffs despite a home T20I series against South Africa ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Nicholas Pooran: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter was the second-highest run-scorer for his team. He finished with 499 runs in 14 matches at an average of 62.37 and a strike rate of 178.21. The left-hand batter smashed three fifties.

Andre Russell: Andre Russell was back to bowling in the IPL 2024 and finished as the joint fourth-highest wicket-taker. The right-arm pacer picked 19 wickets and scored 222 runs at a strike rate of 185 to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the title.

Shai Hope: The West Indies wicketkeeper-batter was part of Delhi Capitals (DC) squad in the IPL 2024. He could score only 183 runs in nine matches at an average of 22.87 and a strike rate of 150.

Shimron Hetmyer: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter also did not have an impressive season. He scored 113 runs in 12 matches at an average of 22.60 and a strike rate of 163.76. In the Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the left-hander scored 4 off 10 as Rajasthan lost by 36 runs.

Rovman Powell: The West Indies captain for the T20 World Cup 2024 was also part of RR squad. He scored 103 runs in 10 matches at an average of 17.16 and a strike rate of 151.47.

Romario Shepherd: He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad. He got limited opportunities in which he scored 57 runs in five innings (three times not out) at an average of 28.50 and a strike rate of 271.42.

Alzarri Joseph: The 27-year-old pacer played just three matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024. He was expensive and picked just one wicket.

Shamar Joseph: The 25-year-old West Indies pacer who hadn’t played a single T20I game before making his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He played just one game and leaked 47 runs in four overs.

Sherfane Rutherford: The batting all-rounder was part of KKR, but unfortunately did not get any game time.
