The world famous magazine Wisden Cricket magazine named their Under-25 World Test XI team a few days ago. It eligible players who are 25 years of age or younger on July 31, 2022.
Their Test team included two players each from West Indies, India and Pakistan, as well as one each from Sri Lanka, England, Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh.
01 Abdullah Shafique – Pakistan
22-year-old Shafiq has played 07 Test matches so far, where he has scored 736 runs at an average of 66.90. It is remarkable that he started his Test career by scoring a century or a half-century six times in his first seven Tests. Recently, his unbeaten 160 against Sri Lanka in Galle was the eighth highest ever in a successful fourth innings chase.
02 Shubman Gill – India
22-year-old Gill has played 11 Test matches for India so far. There, 579 runs have been scored with an average of 30.47. He was the player of the tournament in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and has now struggled to secure a permanent place in India’s Test XI. During the famous victory in 2020/21, he has shown glimpses of his immense potential in Test cricket, scoring 91 in India’s improbable fourth innings chase of 328 at the Gabba.
03 Pathum Nissanka – Sri Lanka
Nissanka is a pre-teen player with a strong first-class record. The Sri Lankan has made an instant mark in Test cricket so far, scoring a century on debut against the West Indies at No.6 last year. Although he started his Test career at No.6, he now plays either as an opener or at No.3. Slso scored 537 runs in 9 matches for Sri Lanka at an average of 38.35.
04 Ollie Pope – England
The 24-year-old younger is still finding his way in international cricket, despite four years with the England national team. Pope has scored 1309 runs in 27 international matches at an average of 29.75. An encouraging 2020 was followed by a poor 2021, which saw him lose his place in the England XI. However, he is returning to his usual form in the first class.
05 Cameron Green – Australia
All-rounder Green can be called as a wonderful discovery that Australia found. Although he doesn’t have a Test century, a five-wicket haul or even a minimum half-century to his name, he has made a strong impact with a batting average of over 30 in the four series he has played so far. Playing the role of an all-rounder, he scored 727 runs and took 16 wickets in 14 matches.
06 Rishabh Pant – India
Pant is one of the leading young cricketers of the moment. The 24-year-older has scored 2123 runs in 31 Tests at an excellent average of 43.32. He has become the only wicket-keeper batsman in the history of the game to score five Test centuries before turning 25. (05 Centuries, 10 Fifties)
07 Joshua De Silva – West Indies
The 24-year-old Trinidadian enjoyed a breakthrough series against England earlier this year, scoring his maiden Test century. He is the wicket keeper of the West Indies team and in 16 matches he has scored 670 runs at an average of 30.45.
08 Marco Jansen – South Africa
The South African left-arm fast bowler has taken 28 wickets in 05 matches so far. He was a revelation in South Africa’s surprise series win over India earlier this year, taming India’s star-studded line-up with sharp leaps from his 6ft 7in frame.
09 Mehidy Hasan Miraz – Bangladesh
The 24-year-old Bangladeshi spinner is already Bangladesh’s third leading wicket-taker in Test cricket and is on his way to breaking all sorts of Bangladeshi records. Mehidy has taken 135 wickets in 35 matches with eight 05 wickets and Having scored over a thousand runs, he has already even got a Test century to his name.
10 Shaheen Afridi – Pakistan
The 22-year-old Shaheen has already dominated all formats and is currently ranked third in the world in the Test format. Last year, Shaheen managed to take 47 wickets in 9 matches in Test cricket. In total, he has taken 99 wickets in 25 Test matches.
11 Jayden Seals – West Indies
The Caribbean is a region with a proud history of producing great fast bowlers. Close to 21, Seals is the Right-arm medium bowler who will play an important role in West Indies’ quietly rising undefeated in 2022. Accordingly, he has taken 20 wickets in five matches in 2022. overall He has played only 9 matches yet and has taken 36 wickets with an economy rate of 3.25.
