CHECK SQUAD HERE: Royals, Patriots, Kings announce retained and new players for CPL 2024

South African batters Quinton de Kock and David Miller will return for the Barbados Royals in CPL 2024 to give their line-up explosive power. Overseas bowlers Maheesh Theekshana, Naveen ul Haq and Keshav Maharaj will also be with the Barbados franchise this season.

The Royals have also retained West Indies T20 captain Rovman Powell, along with hugely experienced all-rounder Jason Holder.

Left-arm seamer Obed McCoy and exciting youngster Ramon Simmonds are also returning for the Royals.

Also retained are Rahkeem Cornwall, Alick Athanaze and Kevin Wickham, along with Nyeem Young and Rivaldo Clarke.

Patriots have also signed the South African batting pair of Tristan Stubbs and Rilee Rossouw as well as Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza.

Patriots’ list of local players, meanwhile, includes batters Evin Lewis, Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Fletcher, who have all been retained, and the seam-bowling allrounder Odean Smith, who has been transferred from Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen will be joining Saint Lucia Kings for CPL 2024, the franchise confirmed along with their list of retentions on Thursday (June 6).

The Kings have also secured the services of Afghanistan left-arm spinner Noor Ahmed and Namibian seam-bowling all-rounder David Wiese, while retaining former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and Sri Lanka’s top-order batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Colin Munro, who had been roped in as a replacement for injured du Plessis last year, has been released, alongside the Zimbabwean pair of Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams.

Among the domestic talent, the franchise has retained the core of Caribbean players that helped them secure a fourth consecutive playoffs spot in 2023. Johnson Charles, Alzarri Joseph, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde and Khary Pierre will all be returning for the 2024 edition. Seam bowlers Shadrack Descarte and McKenny Clarke round out their list of retentions.

The Kings now have 12 confirmed players for the 2024 season and will have five spots to fill at the draft, slated in July.

The Republic Bank CPL 2024 will have two legs running concurrently, with all six teams hosting home matches.

For the first time since 2019, the event will visit six host countries, with matches set to take place in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

There will be 34 matches in total, with each of the six teams playing 10 group matches. The knockout stages will take place in Guyana, with the home team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, looking to defend the title they won in 2023.
