West Indies announced their 15-member squad on September 14 which will be led by wicket-keeper batsman Nicholas Pooran. Rovman Powell has been appointed as vice-captain of the team.

Windies have lifted the World Cup trophy in the shortest format the most number of times by any team, in 2012 and 2016.

West Indies are placed in Group B in Round 1 of the T20I World Cup 2022. The Caribbean will play Scotland in their opening group on 17 October.

On 19 October they will take on Zimbabwe and finally Ireland on 21 October. Out of four teams in either group, two teams with the most points will make it to the Super 12 stage.

Best batters for West Indies

Middle-order batter, Nicholas Pooran, is the most experienced member of the squad and has big shoes to fill after taking on the white-ball captaincy vacated by the retired Pollard. But the 27-year-old keeper is more than up to the task with a career T20 strike rate of 130.17.

Pooran and Brandon King’s 95-run partnership was key to their warm-up win over the UAE on Monday and King is the other major threat with the bat for the West Indies.

Best bowlers for West Indies

The West Indies attack is led by 29-year-old left-arm slow bowler Akeal Hosein who has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since his T20 debut in 2021 with 44 wickets from 29 matches. No one can top former captain and fast bowler Jason Holder’s 23 calendar-year dismissals, though.

Top-order batsman Shamarh Brooks replaced Shimron Hetmyer in the 2022 T20I World Cup squad.

“sure we are ready on the 17th for the start of our tournament” – Head Coach Phil Simmons on their qualifiers

West Indies’ final official T20 world cup warm-up match against the Netherlands was abandoned.

The fixture at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was the second of two warm-ups and represented the West Indies side’s final chance for a match scenario ahead of their opening game of the qualifiers against Scotland next week.

The West Indies registered a comfortable 17-run win over the United Arab Emirates at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Monday.

“Any game that you go into you want to win and you want to try and plan properly and execute those plans properly. There are still one or two areas that we need to work on,” said Estwick after the game.

“We lost some early wickets; we didn’t assess the conditions as you would like.”

However today, West Indies head coach, Phil Simmons, points out that despite the abandoned match against Netherlands, the Windies remains focused on their qualifiers against Scotland.

“I’m looking at the first game and the first game is against Scotland on the 17th, and that’s where we are focussing now,” he said.

“When we finish with that one, we focus on the next one, so right now it’s about sharpening up and making sure we are ready on the 17th for the start of our tournament,” he added.

After bidding farewell to the likes of Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle, a new-look Windies team has a battle on their hands to recapture past glories.

While Russell, Shimron Hetmayr, Fabian Allen, and Sunil Narine was not selected for the squad after an indifferent run of form.

“It will be very difficult for the West Indies team as the captain of the team is new and there is no Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Bravo in the team,” Gayle told India daily Dainik Jagran.

Despite their relative lack of experience, Gayle believes the team’s talent could make them a can be powerful for any opponent on a given day.

“Yes, it is definitely that the players who are included in the West Indies team are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team. As everyone knows it is just a matter of adapting your strategy in the right way on match day. I hope the team plays well,” he added.

West Indies’ Three first-round matches at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart will hopefully be the beginning of a very fruitful tournament for the Windies.

They face Scotland on October 17 before taking on Zimbabwe on Wednesday and Ireland on Friday.

“The batsmen understand what we need to add to get to where we want to be and they’ve been working hard.” – Head coach Phil Simmons,

The West Indies Twenty20 World Cup squad is currently in Australia and so far they have played two Twenty20 matches against Australia and one warm-up match against the United Emirates. Also, the second practice match is scheduled to be held in Melbourne next Wednesday.

They lost both the T20 matches against Australia but managed to win the T20 match against UAE. However, the poor batting performance of the West Indies team was displayed again and scored only 152 runs in the 20 overs. King with 64 runs as well as skipper Pooran strengthened the innings with 46 runs.

However, the West Indies bowlers did not allow the UAE players to cross the 135-run mark. Head coach Phil Simmons says West Indies will use the two official warm-up matches to finalize their plans for the crucial qualifying stages of the Twenty20 World Cup. According to head coach Phil Simmons.

“The two warm-up games are about getting things to work together, about getting the plans we have in place, about making sure players are getting sharper and sharper as they go along.”

“The mood in the camp has been very good. We played two games … and we lost the two games but at the same time, some of the things we’re trying to put in place are starting to come in place and the mood in the camp has been excellent.”

The series defeat was their third in a row after similar results against New Zealand and India in the Caribbean and they have now won just two of their last 10 T20 Internationals. West Indies head coach Simmons, who commented further, said that the batting department, which is always weak, is currently working on it.

“The batsmen understand what we need to add to get to where we want to be and they’ve been working hard.”

“We had a good net session with everyone and everyone is looking forward to playing in the practice games, getting in the middle, and doing what is necessary for the team. So far, the enthusiasm and excitement are there in all the players so that’s good to see.”

After the next warm-up match against the Netherlands, West Indies will face Scotland, Ireland, and Zimbabwe in Group B in a tricky qualifying series.

T20 World Cup 2022: Best XI among not selected players in West Indies squad

The West Indies squad for the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup has already been named. Recently West Indies team played a two-match Twenty20 series against Australia and they lost to the home team 2-0.

However, some big names in the West Indies squad were missing in this World Cup, and there were controversial changes from the players a few days ago. Accordingly, we are able to list the West Indies’ best XI among the unselected players for the mega event.

Destructive Andre Fletcher and defensive batsman Shai Hope can be named as the opening batsmen in the squad not selected for the mega event.

Andre Fletcher, who represented the Patriots in the CPL tournament and the first-ever 6Ixty tournament, scored well in the first few matches. Many fans believed that the way he played in the beginning, he would surely book a place in the T20 World Cup. He scored 229 runs in nine CPL matches.

Another opening batsman, Shai Hope is also a prominent player who was not selected for the T20 World Cup. Hope was the second-highest run-scorer after Hetmayer for the Warriors in the CPL, and he scored 252 runs in 09 matches at an average of 31.50.

Shimron’s absence could be seen as a huge loss to the West Indies batting line-up. He almost missed out on being a part of the T20 World Cup due to not being on time for the rescheduled flight. As such, CWI also issued an announcement that Sharmarh Brooks would be sent to Australia as soon as possible.

Sherfane Rutherford is one of the purest hitters of the cricket ball. There is a very good demand in various leagues across the world and hence extensive experience in the T20 format. His day can be absolutely ruthless with the bowlers and tear apart any bowling attack.

A Jamaican player Russell is a fierce all-rounder who represented the West Indies. He has scored 741 runs in 67 matches for West Indies and has also taken 39 wickets. The all-rounder has scored 6943 runs in 414 T20 matches with two centuries and 26 fifties, and he has also taken 372 wickets.

He is another at the top of the famous conveyor belt of Caribbean power hitters, Having gained a lot of experience playing in T20 leagues around the world, he is simply unstoppable if he stays on the wicket for a while.

A mystery spinner in the truest sense of the word, Sunil Narine is a silent hunter who doesn’t talk too much. He has taken 52 wickets in 51 T20 matches for the West Indies, and he has also got 469 wickets in 431 T20 matches around the world, as well as 3313 runs as a batsman.

Narine is representing TKR in this CPL season and has taken 11 wickets in 10 matches. Narine, who has represented in two World Cups and is armed with a wealth of experience playing in leagues across the world, left the fans quite unhappy not to be a part of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Dr. Desmond Haynes stated that Narine is not interested in playing for the team. Like Russell, Narine has had many disputes with the boards, but he had earlier told ESPNcricinfo in an interview that everyone wants to represent their country, so he still wants to play for the West Indies.

Also, another pillar of power who will not be in the World Cup this year is the all-rounder Fabian Allen. Allen can be defined as dynamic with the bat, crafty with the ball, and electric on the field. He is a utility all-rounder in the shorter formats and came to the attention of the West Indies national selectors after his success in the 2014 ICC U-19 World Cup.

However, a place was not reserved for him in this year’s Twenty20 World Cup, and Dr. Desmond Haynes stated,

“Another one that was pretty close as well. Fabian, we have chat with him. Very good fielder. Has done very well in this format for us. I was a bit unfortunate that he was out of injury. We decided to go with a one left arm spinner.”

However, although many speculated that Antigun Walsh would be taken to support Akeal Hosein in the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup, he did not get that opportunity. Even Darren Sammy mentioned that he has been the number-one spinner for about three years and it would be good if he was seen in the squad.

Desmond Haynes discussed with commentator Ian Bishop the reasons for his absence from the squad, saying that Walsh did not seem consistent.

“We have invested in Hayden, but I think when we look at consistency. We still don’t feel that Hayden is consistent enough. We don’t write off any bowler because we think Hayden is somebody who have invested and we believe that he still stand chance if paying for west Indies. we hope again. he’s another one that will continue to do well in the CPL try to give himself selected.”

Also, Guyanese player Keemo Paul can be included in the unselected best XI. The all-rounder has collected 659 runs with 74 wickets in 92 T20 matches. He represented the Warriors in the concluded CPL season, where he scored 137 runs at an average of 34.25.

Also, Jayden Seals and Romario Shepard are two of the best fast bowlers in the XI who have not been selected for the World Cup. Shepard has taken 79 T20 wickets and was the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded 10th CPL season with 14 wickets. However, Seals is yet to play a T20I for West Indies but he has taken 29 wickets in 22 T20 matches.

Here is West Indies’ best XI among the unselected players for the T20 WC 2022:

Andre Fletcher, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Sherafane Rutherford, Andre Russell, Fabian Allen, Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Hyden Walsh Jr., Jayden Seals, Romario Shepherd

Chris Gayle predicts West Indies and Australia as T20 World Cup 2022 finalists; “West Indies Can prove to be dangerous for any team”

The most successful side in the history of the competition, West Indies are the only team who can claim to be two-time winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

They will kick start its T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against Scotland on October 17 at Blundstone Arena.

WestIndies has won the 1st T20 World Cup Warm-UP match. After being asked to bat 1st, WestIndies scored 152/9 in 20 overs ahead of the T20 World Cup qualifiers.

In reply despite Waseem Muhammad unbeaten 69, UAE fell shot by 17 RUNS

For the WestIndies Brandon King scored 45 balls 64 & Nicholas Pooran contributed 31 balls 46.

‘Universe Boss’ has recently made a prediction about the top-two teams who have the perfect chance to qualify for the finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

West Indies legend Chris Gayle has expressed that West Indies and Australia will be two finalists in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

“I think there could be a final match between West Indies and Australia,” Gayle said while speaking to Dainik Jagran.

The 43-year-old admitted that West Indies will have a tough time as a team, but the team has a lot of potential to do well against the ‘best in the business.

“It will be very difficult for the West Indies team as the captain of the team is new and there is no Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Bravo in the team. Yes, it is definitely that the players who are included in the West Indies team are talented and can prove to be dangerous for any team. As everyone knows it is just a matter of adapting your strategy in the right way on match day. I hope the team plays well,” added Gayle.

“An important week coming up for us” – Windies captain expresses his confidence about World Cup qualifiers

West Indies and United Arab Emirates are set to play in Match No.1 of the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-ups. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday (October 10) at Junction Oval in Melbourne. Recently West Indies lose another series against Australia.

Asked to chase 179 on a challenging wicket at the Gabba, the Caribbean side found partnerships hard to come by and were held to 147 for eight from their 20 overs, going down by 31 runs.

Opener Johnson Charles top-scored with 29 from 30 balls while Akeal Hosein struck a 19-ball 25 batting at number seven but West Indies never really challenged after finding themselves on 70 for three at the halfway mark.

“Obviously it’s tough lossing. Well played to Australia and congratulations on a series win as well but they played better cricket than us today,” said West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran.

“I think the [179] was a gettable total. I think the bowlers did an extremely good job, especially pulling it back in the end there and giving us that momentum going into our innings.

“But the batsmen failed us today in the middle overs there after getting a good start. We obviously faltered and we paid the price in the end.”

Earlier, West Indies started well when the outstanding Alzarri Joseph (3-21) claimed the first of his three wickets by removing Cameron Green for one in the second over with 10 runs on the board.

However, Warner took control of the innings for the hosts, belting 10 fours and three sixes while adding 85 for the second wicket with captain Aaron Finch (15).

In reply, Kyle Mayers drove a low return catch to Starc in the first over to depart for six but Charles combined with Brandon King (23) to stabilize the innings in a 50-run second-wicket partnership.

Charles hit two fours and a six while King notched three fours and a six but neither really found their rhythm and were eventually part of a slide that saw West Indies lose four wickets for 36 runs and the pressure told on the run chase which inevitably flopped.

West Indies today started their preparations for two official warm-up matches against UAE and Netherlands.

“An important week coming up for us. As a group we are trying to understand how we want to play cricket here in Australia and get accustomed to the conditions here, and I think as a group we are doing well in terms of putting our ego aside and trying to work towards our team plan and we will be ready for the World Cup Qualifiers,” Pooran said after the defeat against Australia.

Sir Curtly Ambrose has expressed his views on Windies in T20 World Cup; “There’re couple of names that I have a question mark over”

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is set to kickstart later this month in Australia. A total of 16 teams are part of the tournament.

The tournament will witness 45 matches. The opening game will be played on October 16 while the final is scheduled to be played on November 13, 2022.

Out of the 16 teams, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia, Scotland, UAE, Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Ireland are part of the qualifier round and will play the qualifier round first. 4 teams out of these will join the super 12 round.

In this year’s T20 World Cup, the West Indies team Will be playing qualifier Group B with Ireland, Scotland, and Zimbabwe are rivals. The former West Indies Skipper said that such countries are not pushovers at all.

In the recently concluded interview, Sir Curtly Ambrose has expressed his views on the West Indies team’s World Cup journey this year. He predicts a tough road ahead for West Indies.

But Legendary West Indies fast bowler believes with the right mindset Nicholas Pooran-led squad can progress past the World Cup qualifiers and perform in the Super 12.

“There are a couple of names that I have a little question mark over, but that’s just Curtly Ambrose, but the team is already selected so we would have to support them.

The first thing is to get out of the qualifiers and it is not going to be easy because we have Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe, I think, so it is not going to be an easy pushover. But we have the players who can win games and get out of that qualifying stage,” he said.

Sir Curtly said the team must play smart cricket by exercising patience and playing as a unit.

“We have to understand that there are times when the bowling is good enough that you have to respect that where you pick up ones and twos. The boundaries will come. The power-hitting will come because guys are going to present boundary opportunities,

but we have to get away from the mindset that it is all about power-hitting. If we continue to think that way then, more often than not, we will struggle. Ones and twos are important as well … so we can’t just go into any game looking to hit boundaries all the time,” he said.

West Indies’ only side ever to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice, it didn’t click for the West Indies in the UAE and Oman as they finished fifth in Group 1 (2021).
