“Kieron Pollard will need to take greater responsibility” – Aakash Chopra unhappy with Pollard’s role in Mumbai team

Pat Cummins and Venkatesh Iyer played knocks of 56 and 50 respectively as Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the 14th game of IPL 2022 season at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Cummins came into bat in the 14th over after Andre Russell’s dismissal. The match was finely balanced at that point, with Kolkata needing 61 from 41 balls.

However, Cummins was absolutely sensational with his big hitting and clubbed an unbeaten 56 off only 15 balls, with four fours and six sixes, to make a mockery of the target.

He began with a six and four off Tymal Mills to end the 14th over. Jasprit Bumrah was then clattered for a six and a four. With 35 needed off five overs, Mumbai still had faint hopes. It evaporated in no time as Cummins bludgeoned the first four balls from Daniel Sams for 6,4,6,6.

Kolkata romped home in 16 overs as Pat Cummins equaled the record for the fastest IPL fifty.

Earlier, suryakumar Yadav’s fine fifty, Tilak Verma’s solid 38-run knock, Dewald Brevis’ impressive IPL debut and Kieron Pollard’s last over cameo knock of 22 runs off just 5 balls helped Mumbai Indians post 161 for 4 after being asked to bat first by Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kieron Pollard also chipped in with a quickfire

However, Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra feels that experienced Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard needs to take greater responsibility for the team in IPL 2022.

Mumbai have suffered in their first three matches due to a weak middle order. Yesterday also they bit slow in middle overs.

Chopra said that Pollard will need to bring his experience into play and lift his game. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he opined:

“In the middle-order, Mumbai have Kieron Pollard.  Kieron Pollard will need to take greater responsibility. He can get to bat 10 overs, which means there will be enough opportunity for him to play a match-winning knock. He needs to lift his game.” he said

Pollard has scored three , 22 and 22 off 5 balls in the three matches played so far.

“I would also tell him to just play his game ” Ravi Shastri’s important advice for SRH’s Nicholas Pooran

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsman Nicholas Pooran should play offensively in offensive cricket.

Shastri made these remarks while speaking on ESPNcrininfo after Hyderabad’s 12-run loss to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. Pooran made 34 runs off 24 balls but was unable to take his side Win.

Shastri suggested that players like Pooran often tend to lose flow if they look to start slow. He said:

“I would give Pooran some time, but I would also tell him to just play his game and not worry about the rest. If you get into the groove and feel like smacking it and upping the tempo and taking the strike rate up much earlier than what the team would expect, then do it. Because if he starts thinking too much and thinking towards the end, that’s when such players at times lose their rhythm.”

In the same video, England all-rounder Sam Curran mentioned how Pooran is an important Role in SRH’s batting line-up. He reckoned that the team management must back him as he is expected to be one of their top performers with the bat this season.

Curran said:

“It’s one of those things that the ball should have gone out of the park as it was in the slot. But it doesn’t really always go your way. Pooran is a huge player for SRH and he’s the one they should stick with and keep letting him fire because he’s such a big player for them and hopefully he’ll come good very soon.”

Meanwhile, Jason Holder bowled an exceptional last over and held his nerves to take the Lucknow Super Giants to an exceptional win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in the 12th game of IPL 2022 season at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. SRH did look in control at one point in time during the run chase. However, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi’s tidy overs dented their chances of crossing the line.

Pooran contributed with 34 crucial runs from just 24 deliveries. However, SRH lost momentum once he was dismissed in the 18th over.

Hyderabad will next be seen in action on Saturday when they take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings.

IPL 2022, SRH vs LSG Highlights: Nicholas Pooran’s effort wasted, Jason Holder Help to Lucknow Super Giants to Register 12 Run Win

Jason Holder bowled an exceptional last over and held his nerves to take the Lucknow Super Giants to an exceptional win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in the 12th game of IPL 2022 season at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Jason Holder also took three wickets for LSG in his first match for the franchise. Avesh Khan returned with four wickets

Earlier, Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram steadied the ship for SunRisers Hyderabad with their 44-run partnership for the third wicket, but as soon as they started to gain an upper hand, Krunal Pandya got the better of Markram and Tripathi.

But Sunrisers took the initiative with quickfire knocks from Rahul Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran; at one stage, they needed 27 from 17 balls with six wickets in hand.

But Avesh turned it around once again with two wickets in two balls in the 18th over, and two more solid death overs from Andrew Tye and Jason Holder, playing his first game of the season, completed the job.

Earlier, while defending 169, Avesh Khan had gotten Lucknow Super Giants off to a perfect start as he dismissed Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma. Earlier, KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda played knocks of 68 and 51 respectively as Lucknow Super Giants posted 169/7 in the allotted 20 overs.

Brief scores:

LSG 169 for 7 in 20 overs (KL Rahul 68 off 50 balls, Deepak Hooda 51 off 33 balls, Washington Sundar 2/28, Romario Shepherd 2/42)

SRH 157/9 (Rahul Tripathi 44 off 30 balls, Avesh Khan Khan 4/24, Jason Holder 3/34).

“We can’t compare him to Chris Gayle” – Bhanuka Rajapaksa

Punjab Kings top-order batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa acclaimed all-rounder Odean Smith for his growth with the game over the years.

The West Indies batter has played 463 T20 matches in his storied cricketing career and amassed 14,562 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Gayle bagged 22 centuries in the T20 format (two in international cricket) and is the only player to smash more than 1000 sixes (1056) with current West Indies white-ball skipper Kieron Pollard behind him with 764 sixes.

Gayle was part of Punjab Kings for the last four seasons and the 42-year-old accumulated 1339 runs in 41 innings for the franchise. Gayle pulled out of the second phase of IPL 2021 citing bubble fatigue as the reason and didn’t participate in the IPL 2022 auction.

“We have nicknamed him ‘Baby Rhino’. He is so powerful. I don’t think he has still found the middle of his bat. Imagine what it would be like if he finds the middle of his bat. He can send the ball miles. We can’t compare him to Chris Gayle,” Rajapaksa told TimesofIndia.com.

Smith provided the finishing touches to Punjab Kings in their fabulous paced chase of 206 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with a blitz of 8-ball 25. Rajapaksa, who scored 43 from 22 balls in that match, said Smith is yet to play from the middle of his bat and can be more destructive in the coming matches.

“Because Chris is such a legend in T20s and One-Dayers. He has scored a lot of runs and done so much for the country. I have seen Odean Smith grow as a cricketer. I have played against him too. It is so nice to see him adapting and performing when the team needs him,” he added.

IPL 2022 ,CSK vs LSG Highlights : Evin Lewis Star As LSG Beat CSK By 6 Wickets

Evin Lewis blasted the fastest fifty this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) completed a thrilling run chase to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to back-to-back defeats, despite the defending champions scoring 210/7 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday.

Chasing a target of 211, LSG chased down the target with three balls to spare. For LSG, Evin Lewis and Quinton de Kock scored half-centuries while KL Rahul also played a fine cameo at the top of the order.

LSG having raced away to 98/0 in the first 10, it was South African pacer Dwaine Pretorius (2-31) who kept CSK in the hunt in the middle overs.

Lewis and Hooda kept the chase alive, both muscled a boundary each off Dwayne Bravo in the 16th over. Pretorius gave away only nine in the 17th and Bravo, after getting hit for a six, sent back Hooda in the 18th.

With 34 runs needed from the final two overs, CSK decided to throw the ball to Shivam Dube for the penultimate over and the decision backfired spectacularly with Ayush Badoni and Lewis wreaking havoc.

Badoni thumped him for 6 off the first delivery and Lewis (55 not out off 23 balls) then brought up the fastest fifty of IPL 2022, from just 23 balls, as he smashed 4, 4 and 6 off the last 3 balls with a total of 25 runs coming from the over.

With just 9 needed from the final over, debutant Mukesh Choudhary (0/39) started off with two wides before Badoni (19 not out off 9 balls) smacked another maximum and wrapped up the win soon after with 3 balls to spare.

Earlier, CSK managed to post a total of 210 for seven against the LSG. Robin Uthappa led the way with a fine 50 while Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali also played handy cameos to take CSK past the 200-run mark.

Robin Uthappa scored a 25-ball half-century in the first innings as CSK got off to a flyer despite losing the toss but it wasn’t enough as Lucknow chased down the total in style. Chennai have now lost back-to-back games at the start of the season for the very first time in the IPL.

Watch : “I have to teach these guys how to dance” – Dwayne Bravo performs the ‘Number One’ hook step with CSK teammates

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Dwyane Bravo was recently captured performing the hook step of his new song ‘Number One’ along with his teammates. The veteran cricketer took to social media to share a video in which several CSK stars could be seen grooving to the popular number after their workout session.

The now retired West Indies all-rounder became the first player to take 500 wickets in T20 cricket and, in addition to the IPL, played in the Big Bash, Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League and Bangladesh Premier League.

The likes of Narayan Jagadeesan, Bhagath Varma and Chris Jordan were seen doing the ‘Number One’ step with Bravo. The seasoned campaigner hilariously mentioned that he had to teach these players how to dance.

Bravo captioned the post:

“We all Dream to be NumberOne 🔥👌🏾 after our workout 🏋️‍♀️ this morning.. I have to teach these guys how to dance 🕺🏾 hahaha 🤣 @jagadeesan_200 @bhagathvarma @cjrjordan @chennaiipl.”

It is worth mentioning that Bravo had also performed the dance move after dismissing Venkatesh Iyer in the inaugural match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).

Former CSK spinner Harbhajan Singh commented on Bravo’s post, asking him to make the team’s video analyst dance to the song. He wrote:

“Get Laxman to do this too… Csk video analysts.”

Meanwhile, Bravo achieved a significant milestone during Chennai’s match against KKR on Saturday. The right-hander secured a stunning three-wicket haul in the contest to take his IPL wickets tally to 170. With that, he equaled Lasith Malinga’s record for most scalps in the league’s history.

“The first peak is done; 13 more to go”” – Odean Smith after a dream debut in the IPL

25-year-old West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith is not looking too ahead of himself after a dream debut in the IPL. He powered Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.

After Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to ball, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 205 runs for the loss of 02 wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Faf du Plessis scored 88 and Kohli 41. D Karthik, who played a fast innings in the last few overs, scored 32 off 14 balls.

Chasing a target of 206, Banuka Rajapaksa scored 43 off 22 balls and Shikhar Dhawan scored 43 off 29 balls.

With 156 runs, Livingston were out for the fifth wicket with Odean Smith scoring 25 off 08 balls to take the Punjab Kings to victory with Shah Rukh Khan in the final over. It consisted of three sixes and one four.

Smith had played CPL and T10 before playing in the IPL, where he did a lot of work. He said in January before the tournament,

“I had put in a lot of work going into that CPL, so I was quite confident. That was a big part of why I did well I was very confident in my body, physically, and that’s where it all started. I just went out there and expressed myself. “

That confidence in his game came to the fore on his IPL debut too. After an ordinary shift with the ball – he gave up 52 runs in four overs – he rallied with the bat to stun RCB with a Player-of-the-Match performance.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Odean Smith said he got off to a good start and was able to finish well. He also said that although it was a good wicket, he could not bowl as planned. Bangalore scored 52 runs in his 04 overs and Smith said that there is no baggage on the team and that it is solely focused on winning games.

Smith said:

“It can be a first for most of us. Punjab Kings haven’t won the title yet, but it’s all about winning. We watched a motivational movie called 14 Peaks. The first peak is done; 13 more to go.”

The stage was set for the West Indian to unleash his big shots when he arrived at the crease. The 25-year-old Jamaican got a reprieve when he was on 1, and he made RCB pay for that.

Smith smacked three sixes and a boundary in the next four deliveries to set up the victory for the Kings. He said that the team had the belief to chase down the 206 run target set by Bangalore. Earlier, RCB rode on a 118-run partnership between captain Faf du Plessis and former captain Virat Kohli.

“We were stressing on having a good start. It was all about belief. Once we got a good start, we knew we have the power at the back end,” Smith continued.”I’ve got to work on that” – Odean Smith on his bowling

Meanwhile, the start wasn’t that great for the overseas all-rounder, as he was taken to the cleaners in the first half of the game. Smith conceded 52 runs in his four overs as Du Plessis, Kohli and Dinesh Karthik clobbered him all over the park.

Disappointed with his bowling effort, Smith said that he needs to work on that ahead of the next game, adding:

“It didn’t go to plan with my bowling – I’ve got to work on that. But I’m glad to get my team home (with the bat). It was all about execution, and that’s the reason why it went haywire (with the ball).”

CSK v KKR 1st Match – Dwayne Bravo equals Lasith Malinga as the highest wicket-taker in IPL history.

The first match of the 15th edition of IPL 2022 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday and Iyer’s Kolkata won the first match.

Winning the toss, Kolkata invited Chennai to bat first and the start was not so successful and Yadav was able to remove Gaikward from the field when the first wicket was two runs.  In 10.5 overs Chennai scored 61 runs for the loss of 05 wickets.

However, at the end of the allotted 20 overs kings managed to score 131 runs for the loss of 05 wickets. Skipper Jadeja and former captain Dhoni led the team to a successful conclusion. Accordingly, Dhoni scored 50 runs in 38 balls.

West Indies’ Andrew Russell and Sunil Narine played for Kolkata while Sunil Narine bowled four overs and the opponents scored just 15 runs and Russell completed the first two overs successfully, taking 01 for 06. However, in the last two overs, he struggled a bit and Chennai managed to score 32 runs. Russell took one wicket for 38 runs in his 04 overs.

Chasing a target of 132, Kolkata won by 06 wickets in 18.3 overs. Rahane 44, Iyer 20 not out,  sam billing 25

What was remarkable about this match was that West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo was able to tie with the highest number of wicket-takers. Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Lasith Malinga had previously led the way with 170 wickets and Bravo was able to equal him. Bravo took 03 wickets for 20 runs in 04 overs in last match.

Delhi Capital and Mumbai Indians will play the first match of the two-match series today, while the second match will be between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
